A lot of plastic waste is being generated and discarded in public areas around the city of Visakhapatnam, besides creating an unclean atmosphere in the city, this plastic waste is also very harmful to the environment and the animal life. As plastic is non-biodegradable, it does not decompose naturally, and pollutes it surroundings overtime. Hence, it is imperative that this waste being generated is processed accordingly to decrease pollution and improve the overall environment in the city. 

In this context, Rotary Club Lake District, Moinabad and Indian Youth for Society, Vizag sought Aurobindo Pharma Foundation’s (APF) support in establishing a plastic waste recycling plant on 2 acres of land allotted by the Greater Vizag Municipal Corporation (GVMC) equipped with all the machinery required for plastic waste recycling. APF under their CSR agenda of environmental sustainability, supported Rotary for the establishment of the plant. This plant will reduce pollution, create a cleaner environment in the city and benefit the inhabitants of Vizag and surrounding areas. 

This recycling plant was launched by Sri K. Ragunathan, Independent Director & Non-Executive Chairman, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd., Ms. Stephanie A Urchick, President- Nominee, Rotary International accompanied by public representatives, APF representatives and Rotary representatives on 11th December 2022.
